Aboriginal Resilience and Recovery Questionnaire (ARRQ)

The Challenge

More than three decades of First Nations research has documented the resilience, resistance, and critical role of culture and self-determination in maintaining wellbeing and healing from the impacts of colonisation for First Nations peoples worldwide. However, the ways in which different cultural determinants of health support wellbeing and mitigate the impacts of different types of mental health and social and emotional wellbeing difficulties are not yet well documented.

What we did

The Aboriginal Resilience and Recovery Questionnaire (ARRQ) is an Aboriginal designed measure developed by Dr Graham Gee, an Aboriginal psychologist, in partnership with senior Aboriginal staff from the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS). The ARRQ is being used in various Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led programs of research and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations to support service delivery.
