About us

Stronger Futures is an National Health and Medical Research Council-funded Centre of Research Excellence (CRE). We are Australia’s first national collaborative centre working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and refugee communities to break intergenerational cycles of trauma and social inequity.

Our five-year goal is to improve social and emotional wellbeing, family functioning and resilience in families and communities disproportionately impacted by intergenerational trauma and family violence.

In the longer term, our aim is to contribute to reversal of the current upward trends in rates of suicide, self-harm and mental health disorders in children and young people.

The Stronger Futures CRE is lead by the Intergenerational Health group at Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, and the South Australian Health & Medical Research Institute.
