Laura Biggs

Dr Biggs is a midwife and Research Fellow in the Intergenerational Health group, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. Her program of research focuses on the use of innovative qualitative methodologies and methods to generate deeper understandings of complex social and health phenomena, including maternal suicidality and intergenerational trauma. Laura is passionate about the use of creative participatory research methods to reimagine health and social care in partnership with marginalised communities and health and social care professionals.

Laura is a CRE Scholar, and co-leads the trauma informed principles and approaches priority area with Professor Stephanie Brown, Karen Glover, Helen Kennedy, and A/Prof Elisha Riggs

Laura hopes the Stronger Futures CRE focus on partnerships and collaborative ways of working can generate new understandings about the ways health professionals and systems can best support individuals, families, and communities who have experienced trauma, with the ultimate goal of preventing intergenerational cycles of trauma.

Laura lives, works, and plays on Wurrundjeri Country.

Human connection, her love of forests and plants, and time with her pets keeps her strong and resilient.
